Nowadays, the Cathedral of Seville is the largest gothic church. It is said that its construction began in 1401 on a place where the old Mosque of Seville used to be located. Some elements of the mosque such as the ''Patio de los naranjos'' or ''La Giralda'', which is a minaret, are part of this cathedral at the present time. The Alcázar is a royal palace built for the Christian king Peter of Castile, in Seville in the fourteenth century. It is still used as a royal residence, the oldest royal palace in Europe.
These amazing monuments are in the ''Santa Cruz'' Quarter, full of cobbled alleys and perfumed by the scent of orange blossom. Enjoy Seville's old town as you ride a horse-drawn carriage, the most traditional way to get around the city.
