During this tour you will understand why the sea is an essential part of the Basque Country culture. Breathe the sea breeze like never before in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an unique islet with a hermitage located on its summit, and discover Bermeo, a picturesque small fishing village. Finally, get to know Gernika, the town that inspired Picasso to paint its homonymous painting.
Departing from Bilbao at 8.20AM, we will arrive to the viewpoint and we will start the itinerary. San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, whose name means "rock castle" in Basque (gaztelu = castle + aitz = rock), is definitely a must during your stay in the Basque Country. It is an islet as small as impressive, located on the coast of Bizkaia, only 35 km far from Bilbao. You will enjoy this astonishing area during 2 hours of free time, so you can go up to the hermitage located on top of the hill if you wish. Once you get there, do not forget to touch the bell of the chapel three times and make a wish!
Once back from San Juan, we will continue our itinerary towards Bermeo, where we will take a walking tour through this beautiful fishing village. Finally, we will go to Gernika, to visit its House of Meetings before we departure back to Bilbao, where the arrival is scheduled at 2.30PM.
